Simple and Fun Ways to Keep Kids Active

Simple and Fun Ways to Keep Kids Active

If you are like us here in Michigan then you are already way too cold for November! (The idea to blanket burrito myself already sounds incredibly appealing.)  The cold doesn't stop the kids from having the energy to bounce off the walls and leave me wondering how I can help them burn this energy without feeling like a crazy person. I have just a few simple ways to keep them busy that doesn't require much preparation and you can get in on the fun too!

 Dancing

We are a household of dancers. We may not be the best dancers but you know what, we like to dance like no one is watching! We like to throw on Pandora, play family friendly songs, and get our jam on. Our fave stations are Monster High Radio, Radio Disney, and Kids Songs. We are also a family who loves Go Noodle! If you've never heard of it check it out on YouTube because it has the silliest songs and dances that I'm sure your children will love and that you'll have fun with it too. Another YouTube channel that we enjoy is Cosmic Kids Yoga, there are short videos for the kids who like to move onto new things quickly and there are longer videos that have stories for the kids to listen to while doing yoga. They get story time while getting some nice stretches in.

Games

Games are a great way to keep kids busy (duh). I'm sure you already knew that! Some great games we play are hide and seek, Simon says, duck, duck, goose, and we like truth or dare! The girls love when Mom and Dad play games with them and its great because not only do we bond but we also hear a lot less of, " Can I play on your phone?" and we all know we don't want our babies becoming dependent on electronics to be their source of entertainment.

Crafts

This may not be the most active activity for keep your kids body active but it certainly keeps the mind active. Crafts can be as simple or as elaborate as you want them to be. I love taking the girls to our neighborhood Dollar Tree and letting them pick out what they'd like to craft. We can make monsters, butterflies, fish, whatever their hearts desire as long as we are having fun and we are expanding our imaginations!

Destinations

If you are looking to get out of the house then, depending on your budget, your possibilities are endless! Around us we have arcades, museums, aquariums, and we have plenty of playplaces. Our current favorite that we finally went to was the Sea Life Aquarium. We love aquatic animals so this was a real treat for us. So many little areas where you could stick your head in the bubble and feel like you are in with the fish! Our spot we enjoyed the most would have to be the tunnel because you have the aquarium all around you! You have fish and sea turtles swimming above you, you have sharks swimming around, you have great aquatic plant life! We loved the aquarium! Our next spot we are going to go to is LegoLand! Probably after the holidays after all the craziness has died down.

So those are just a few ideas to help with keeping kids active and entertained (and yourself). Hope you can turn to this in times where you feel like your brain is melting and you just want to the kids to cool it. Keep their hands and brains busy! If none of these work you can always play "Who can stay quiet the longest" ;)

What are some things you like to do with your children to keep them moving?
